St Andrew’s Singers

The St Andrew’s Singers was formed in April 2012 and is the Church Choir of St Andrew’s Heckington.  The group is a mixed adult ensemble of 17 members, covering the four vocal parts of Soprano, Alto, Tenor and Bass.  Our singers live within the parish and are a mix of experienced musicians and some for whom singing in an ensemble is a first-time experience.
The choir meet to rehearse at Heckington St Andrew's church on Wednesdays at 7.30-8.30pm and sing on the first, second and third Sunday of each month.  The choir sing a different anthem and psalm each week, with psalms ranging from plainsong and traditional Anglican Chant to more modern, responsorial settings.  The choir sing a range of anthems and motets from Renaissance composers to 21st Century works.  On third Sundays, the choir sing the Eucharistic setting, Gloria and Gospel Acclamation.
The choir has had a positive impact on worship, providing a strong lead to congregational singing, an invaluable contribution in such a large building.  At special services and other large occasions, the choir team-up with members of the Helpringham Group Choir to form a larger ensemble of voices, allowing us to sing repertoire requiring larger resources than are regularly available.
In addition to singing at regular worship, the St Andrew’s Singers also give concerts, where they sing a mix of sacred and secular works.
New members of any age and experience are always welcome to join us.  The choir is a friendly group who enjoy their fellowship as much as their music making.
For further details of our rehearsal schedule, please contact the Director of Music, John Lyon.
